Intro to AI & Everyday Workflows (Redux)

A second round of DIA's hands-on AI session, back by request.

Curious about AI tools but not sure where to start? Join the DIA Design Guild for a relaxed, hands-on session on using AI in everyday design and research work.

This is a "show and talk," not a lecture. We'll cover the basics, run a quick live demo, and spend most of the time in open discussion. Bring questions!

Event details

  • Date: Thursday, October 8, 2026
  • Time: 5:30–6:30 PM Pacific
  • Format: Virtual, Google Meet
  • Hosts: Kao-wei Chen and John Khuu (DIA board members)

What we'll cover

  • What AI tools can do in relation to design work
  • A live look at two tools: Claude and Codex
  • Open conversation about how people are using AI in their own work

From our August session
In our first session, the group compared Claude and Codex side by side on the same design prompt, and talked through where AI still needs human oversight (branding, accessibility, compliance). We also covered responsible use: guardrails, governance, and data ethics. When we polled attendees, the top uses people already had for AI were drafting and content creation, research synthesis, and coding or handoff work.

Who it's for
Entry-to-intermediate folks who have some familiarity with AI tools. If you've poked around a bit and want to go a little deeper, this is for you.

What to expect
We'll keep it to about an hour, with room to run longer if the discussion keeps going. This is a follow-up to our August session, and your feedback here will shape what we cover next.

Hope to see you there,
Grace & the DIA Design Guild
