Hello, Spring! Unless you’re in Colorado like some of us, then it's Second Winter. Regardless, it does feel good to have the weather warming up and things starting to turn green.

We have some exciting news to share this month! World IA Day was a smashing hit (thank you to all who attended and were involved!) and IAC 2024 is right around the corner. Our new apprentice cohort officially kicked off this month as well.

#1: World IA Day wrap up

Thank you to everyone who participated in World IA Day 2024! It couldn’t have happened without you! You blew our expectations away.

For WIAD LA we would like to thank Esri, Triibe, and the ArtCenter College of Design for supporting the event. We want to thank our speakers Grace Lau, Jane Pyeon, Samantha Vivonia, and Nicholas Bauch. We also want to thank all of our organizers who helped make this possible: Grace Lau, Lexi Watkins, Gini Martinez, Kelsey Villacorte, Nao Madison, Vanya Hsu, and Jane Pyeon.

We want to give a shout out to WIAD Boston as well! We would like to thank the Boston Public Library for hosting. Thank you to our speakers and presenters Dawn Russell and Heather Hedden. Thank you to Julia DeBari for working so hard on organizing the event!

#2: Introducing the new apprentice cohort

Our 2024 cohort started earlier this month! We are excited for you to begin your journey through the DIA Apprenticeship Program.

#3: DIA Read Aloud Book Club

Friendly reminder that DIA Book Club starts next month on April 4th. We will be reading Storytelling with You: Plan, Create, and Deliver a Stellar Presentation by Cold Nussbaumer. No need to buy or read ahead of time, we will be reading together.

Our meetings will be Thursdays 7pm EST/4pm PST. We will meet every other week. Be sure to sign up!

#4: DIA Game Club Updates

The DIA Game Club is back in action! 

After months of teasing, we’re finally ready to show what we’ve got in store for 2024. Check out the announcement post for more information.

Events and announcements from communities DIA supports

DIA sends apprentices to help produce and coordinate events from various communities. Along the way, they learn about building roadmaps, communication, and community management.

#5: World IA Cafe

We are resuming the Cafe on April 18th. Stay tuned for more updates in the future.

#6: IAC: Seattle, April 8-13

IAC is in 2 weeks! We are pumped, and we know you are too! The theme for this year is IA in the Age of AI: Designing Intelligent Information Landscapes. Don’t miss workshops on April 9th and 10th, followed by the main conference April 11-13th.

We are also excited because there are two posters that DIA apprentices will be presenting at the conference! One is the State of IA presented by Miguel Castillo and Vanya Hsu. The other is about our apprentice program research project from Caroline Craner and Alex Forseth (hey, that’s me!). Come by, say hi and see what we’ve been working on.

Want to work with DIA?

Projects give our apprentices the opportunity to work on real-world projects, partner with clients and their stakeholders on their needs and goals, and provide a space for them to learn about the intricacies of understanding how to balance information, needs, and intention.
